Preparing Body and Mind

Preparing your mind and body for surgery is crucial. Let's talk about some steps you can take.

First, focus on your physical health. Eat a balanced diet with plenty of fruits, vegetables and protein. Stay hydrated by drinking lots of water. Now we're talking three litres here. That's about six pints a day. Yes, a lot, I know. Aim for more in the morning than in the afternoon. Regular exercise can also help. Even light activities like walking or stretching can improve your overall health and boost your recovery.

Next, let's prepare your mind. Practice relaxation techniques such as deep breathing, meditation or yoga. These can reduce stress and help you feel more centred. Visualisation can be powerful too. Imagine yourself going through the surgery smoothly and recovering quickly. This positive mindset can make a big difference.

It's also good to get plenty of rest. Good sleep helps your body heal and keeps your mind sharp. Move your phone charger away from your bed. Allow yourself time before bed with no phone light and first thing in the morning have a few moments to process the day.

Lastly, stay connected with your support network. Talk to your friends, your family, a counsellor about your feelings. Their support can be very comforting.

By taking these steps, you'll be better prepared both mentally and physically for your surgery.
